FDNY Calling All Hands
Firefighter Carl Asaro's Wife Needs Our Help

Firefighter Carl Asaro was appointed to the job in July 1987 and assigned to Engine 54 in Midtown.  Carl was a Queens native and a graduate of Holy Cross High School; he was one of the best men you could ever hope to work with.  Carl was a dedicated firefighter, stand up guy, great cook, jack of all trades and the absolute best at stirring the pot in the firehouse kitchen.  He was as famous for his firehouse meals as he was for his collection of overused automobiles.  Carl was taken from us on 9/11 when he responded to the WTC with Chief Galvin in the 3rd Division; they operated in the hotel lobby adjoining the South Tower.
Only a short time before his death, Carl confided to friends that his wife Heloiza was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a rare blood/bone cancer.  Father Mychal Judge had promised Carl he would help getting Heloiza the best treatment available.  She has been quietly fighting cancer for the last ten years while raising her family of five children.  Heloiza is now going through an extremely difficult stage of this awful disease.
Heloiza is undergoing treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering and needs blood donations made in her name.  Please give your best effort and encourage friends and family to donate blood for Heloiza.  Make your "directed donation" to Heloiza Asaro.

1st Annual 5K Fun Run A Major Success!!

Saturday, April 16, 2011

On behalf of everyone from the Lt Healy Foundation, thank all of or runners for taking the time and making the effort to participate.  Today wasn't just about a Fun Run but  aiding New York City Firefighters and their families who are battling cancer.

As first time race organizers we want to acknowledge everyone’s patience, generosity and good humor as we worked through the kinks of our inaugural event.  Most of all a shout out to all our loyal and helpful volunteers, with who we would not have gotten off the ground this morning.

Best Wishes & God Bless
