Blood Needed for Owen Hogan
Tuesday, April 30, 2013
-
**All Hands**O- blood needed for a brother firefighter's family. Please help spread the word and save a life.
Please take 2 minutes to read this. YOU might be the one who can help save my friends Tim Hogans 2 year old son Owen. Tim is a Jones Beach Lifeguard and FDNY Firefighter (Engine 216 Brooklyn).

Tims son Owen has been diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia- a bone marrow disease where the bone marrow itself is no longer making red blood cells. It is a rare and serious condition that, due to his low blood cell counts, hemoglobin, and platelet counts leaves him very susceptible to bleeding and infection. We are desperately looking for ANYONE with O- Blood who is willing to donate. This is the most rare blood type and cannot be replaced with anything else other than O-.

How can you donate?

Please call Rene Bennett at the Blood Bank of New Jersey to specify a blood donation for Owen Hogan. From what I understand, all you have to do is give her his name. Her number is (973) 676-4700, ext 127. Her hours are Monday-Friday, 8-4. If you call her off hours, she will get back to you the next business day. We are currently working out how you can go to local blood banks here in the Metropolitan area.

"Your positive thoughts and prayers are all you can do for Owen. We have such an amazing support network of family, friends, and even people we have never met who urgently want to help. For those with different blood types, I say this:I am a firm believer in karma. You can still donate blood- it just won't go to Owen. It will, however, go to someone to desperately needs it, just as Owen will get blood and platelets, some of which will come from people we will never meet, and never get to thank. I would never ask someone to go donate if they didn't want to; however, we can use all the good thoughts, good intentions, and good karma we can get right now. I'd like to think that If you were to donate your blood, someone will benefit from it on Owen's behalf." -Tim Hogan

Thank You
The Board with the generous donation.

FDNY Commissioner Helps Raise Money For His Men Dealing With Cancer

Fire Commissioner Rappels 400 Feet for the American Cancer Society

.

Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano rappelled approximately 40 stories down a high-rise building as part of the American Cancer Society’s Over the Edge challenge on Sept. 28. He was the top fundraiser for the event, raising more than $16,500 in honor of all FDNY members who have battled or who are currently battling cancer.

The event, which took place outside Harborside Financial Center Plaza 5 in Jersey City, N.J., also included local celebrities like Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice and radio personality Greg Tyndorf from the Elvis Duran Morning Show.

Commissioner Cassano said he was excited to take part in such a great event, and was not deterred by the inclement weather, taking time to wave to his friends and family below as he rappelled.

Commissioner Cassano spent a good portion of his career crawling down Brooklyn hallways with "The Quiet Man" (Lt Thomas F. Healy) and for those who support the Lt Thomas F. Healy Foundation, we couldn't be prouder to see the leader of the FDNY take such an active role in promoting awareness for a cause so near and dear to all our hearts and The Lt. Thomas F. Healy Foundation sends our heartfelt thanks to him!
